Dr. Nagham Al-Mozany

Dr. Nagham Al-Mozany is a New Zealand trained Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon who is fluent in English, Arabic and French, specialising in Colorectal cancer and perianal conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fissures, fistulas and pelvic floor disorders.

Dr. Nagham gained her medical qualification from the University of Otago in 2004 and received her Fellowship in General Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2011. She was awarded a New Zealand scholarship to undertake her Masters in Colorectal Surgery under the supervision of Professor Michael Solomon at the University of Sydney in 2012. She was the only New Zealander to be accepted into the ANZ  two year post-fellowship subspecialty training program in colorectal surgery in 2013, with a focus on laparoscopic surgery and pelvic exenteration for advanced colorectal cancers and benign pelvic floor disorders at the esteemed Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and St. George Hospital in Sydney, Australia in 2013-2014.

Dr. Nagham is the recipient of several esteemed awards including the John McCall Prize in General Surgery at Auckland City Hospital in 2011 and the Spirit Award for MercyAscot Hospital in 2019.  She was also recently awarded a Fellowship in General Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2022 in recognition of her clinical experience, reputation and qualifications in Australasia.

Dr. Nagham is one of the very few female colorectal surgeons practising in Auckland, and is highly regarded amongst her colleagues, students, patients and friends. She and her team strive to provide the highest level of surgical expertise, respect and compassionate care to all her patients, in New Zealand and globally. She has had roles in the Surgical Directorate Quality and Governance Group at Auckland City Hospital and believes in patient-focused care and a multi-disciplinary team approach particularly, for patients with bowel cancer.

Current and previous positions include: Colorectal and General Surgeon at MacMurray Centre, Mercy Hospital, Kakariki Hospital, Auckland City Hospital, and Program Director for the ANZ training board in colorectal surgery at Auckland City Hospital.

Dr. Nagham is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland Medical School and has a passion for teaching the future generation.

From a research and academic perspective, Dr. Nagham has been invited to speak at numerous International and National conferences and has presented internationally in San Francisco, Singapore, Australia, Kuala Lumpur, and Istanbul.  Her artistic skills have been demonstrated at several international conferences and publications worldwide.

Dr. Nagham has a special interest in benign perianal conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulas, pelvic floor dysfunction such as faecal incontinence and obstructed defecation, which form a large part of her clinical practice. Though these are benign conditions, they may significantly affect the quality of life of many people and special attention to this subgroup of conditions is important.  She is an advanced laparoscopic surgeon and also has an interest in laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery and is an active member of the multidisciplinary cancer team in public practice. 

Dr. Nagham lives with her husband and children and when not working, loves spending quality time with her family, cooking and travelling.
